Project Background

The Town maintains more than 70 facilities. Improvements to these facilities are necessary to increase efficiency, enhance programs, and to maintain operations. Additionally, improvement projects help minimize operational cost and allow staff to offer the best services possible.

Current Projects

Facility improvement projects vary in scale and type which range from resolving small maintenance issues to space renovations. These projects also provide opportunities to improve accessibility so that programs and services are available to everyone. No matter what type of scale, all are equally important to increase the life of the facility.

Below is a list of current improvement projects that includes the facility, summary of the work to be completed, construction costs, and the staff contact for the project.

Bond Park Comfort Station ADA Improvements

Summary: Bond Park Comfort Station #2 was built over 30 years ago and continues to serve hiking trails and three sports fields. Two facility improvements were completed for this project. First, the existing asphalt sidewalks were removed, regraded, and replaced with new concrete sidewalks that lead to the facility. Secondly, two new accessible, family restrooms were built in the existing concession space since the existing restrooms was not large enough to make accessible without increasing the facility footprint or losing plumbing fixtures.

Design & Construction Completion: Fall 2019 / Winter 2020 / Summer 2020

Bond Park Community Center Partition Dividers

Summary: The Bond Park Community Center was built in 2003 and has recently undrgone a major renovation to the lobby and locker room areas. The facility is well-built and continues to serve Cary citizens every year however some of the original installations need to be replaced. For this project, the movable wall partitions will be replaced in one of the large multipurpose spaces because the worn bearings prevent the partitions from opening and closing which limits how the spaces can be programmed annually.

Replacement Completion: Fall 2020 / Winter 2021

Estimated Replacement Costs: $32,000

USA Baseball NTC Batting Cages

Summary: The USA Baseball National Training Complex provides various pitching and hitting programs at the facility. Since rain can have an impact on scheduling and re-scheduling these programs, Cary has recently completed construction of a new 40x80 covered batting/pitching cage structure. The structure is conveniently located and accessible between the four complex fields. The pitching/ batting lanes are full length with artificial turf, lighting, speakers, and fully enclosed with open netting.

Design / Construction / Completion: Fall 2019 / Winter 2020 / Summer 2020

Final Design & Construction Costs: $225,000

Digital Signage in Town Hall

Summary: Digital signs will replace the existing plastic room signs on Town Hall conference rooms. Integration with Office 365 will allow room schedules to be displayed in real time, and will enable the display of urgent alerts to all signs when necessary. This project includes upgrades to the monitors in the Town Hall atrium, enabling display of live video feeds during Council meetings.
